Bagel Chips Forever

Bagel chips hold a special place in the chip world. At about ⅛ inch thick and delightfully crisp, they can’t be ignored. Salty, lightly seasoned, and simply a joy to munch on. They’ve got the extra crunch that your hors d'oeuvre deserve (to those reading aloud: sorry for the tongue twister)!

What are bagel chips?

Believe it or not, bagel chips start as bagels! At least, when they’re made the traditional way. Bakers take their day-old bagels, slice them into rounds, and toast them with a little olive oil until all the moisture of the bread dries out. Commercially-produced bagel chips do not start out as bagels—although they are typically made from a dough that is similar to bagel dough, they are shaped directly into smaller rounds before baking.

What makes bagel chips special?

It’s all about thickness! Bagel chips aren’t your average flimsy chip—they provide that extra base for your snack that is more substantial than, say, tortilla chips or standard crackers. The bagel flavor they bring to the game also makes these salty snacks stand out. There’s more going on than a plain wheat dough cracker: the complexity of the curing, boiling and baking process that bagels undergo translates into a rich taste and texture that creates the supreme crunch you love!

What do I eat with bagel chips?

Anything you want to combine with a hearty crunch! We like cream cheese, of course. Hummus is another match made in heaven—there’s just something about the combination of creamy and crunchy that hits right. Other favorites include tuna salad, artichoke dip, and ricotta or cottage cheese. Since they provide such an excellent base, showcasing the cheeses, meats, and smoked fish on your charcuterie board might not be a bad idea, either.
